PUKAS AND TECNALIA WORK TOGETHER TO DEVELOP THE WORLD’S FIRST SURFBOARD WITH INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGY

Most innovations in board design and manufacture, as well as analysis of surfing technique, have been the result of “trial and error” procedures and the experiences of shapers, trainers and surfers. The driving forces behind this joint project, PUKAS and TECNALIA, aim to “turn feelings into facts and figures” and provide as yet unquantified data that can be directly applied to improve the features of surfboards, the technical performance of surfers and measurement of parameters during competition.

This research project will revolutionise surfboard manufacturing processes, as they will provide a map of the critical points and their properties, something that will make it possible to incorporate a determined amount of various materials with known properties at specific locations on the surface of surfboards.

In order to carry out the project, Pukas had to install the data gathering electronics – sensors and hardware – in the surfboard itself to transfer the data to a computer. In addition, they characterised the mechanical properties of surfboards so as to quantify the mechanical behaviour of the same and adapt it to the requirements of individual surfers. Pukas has also defined laboratory tests that allowed them to quantify the stiffness/flexibility of boards and their resistance to breakage.

Here, the elite surfers Aritz Aranburu, Hodei Collazo, Kepa Acero and Mario Azurza have been responsible for carrying out the initial experiments designed to characterise the stresses affecting surfboards as faithfully as possible. Other professional surfers, such as Tiago Pires, Joan Duru, Eneko Acero and Tim Boal, are expected to join the project at a later date.

Visualize the elements involved in Search Engine Optimization. A search engine looks in several locations to determine your overall page rank.

Planning Makes Perfect

One of the challenges copywriters face in writing for the web is incorporating proper SEO techniques. The key to achieving your SEO goals is making sure Search Engine Optimization is a priority from the start. A bit of planning before you begin writing copy will help to ensure that your efforts deliver maximum results. In this article we will be focusing on writing search engine optimized content from a copywriter’s perspective.

Choosing appropriate keywords

To choose effective keywords you must put yourself in the shoes of a prospect or potential customer. Your potential customers will not necessarily be aware of the branded product or service that you offer. To bridge this gap, try to identify with the pain point or problem that a customer is experiencing that would have led them to needing your product or service. This need is what will have initiated your prospects internet search.

Once you have identified this primary business need, try to think about the verbiage that your prospect would use to perform their search. Keep in mind that your prospects may not have a deep knowledge of technical phrases in your industry. For example if you have a business selling encrypted external RAID drives, a prospect may search for “secure external hard drive”. It is important to approach this exercise through the viewpoint of your target audience. Once you have developed a level of empathy with your prospects you are in a good position to determine a targeted keyword and to begin to optimize your webpage.

Get Additional Keyword Ideas from Google’s Keyword tool

Estimate Keyword Traffic with Google’s Traffic Estimator

Visualize the elements involved in Search Engine Optimization

A search engine looks in several locations to determine your overall page rank. Remember Madlibs, where there would be a story written down with blank spaces for you to fill in a random noun, adjective or verb? Writing search engine optimized content for the web is a similar exercise. Instead of having blank spaces where a noun or verb should be filled in, think of having certain places on your web page where a keyword should exist. Your task is to write intelligible copy while incorporating your key words into these important areas of your web page. This is a bit of a simplified view, but this will help you visualize how SEO is incorporated into your web page.

Writing your search engine optimized web copy

As a copywriter you will primarily be concerned with the content in the body of the web page. This is the text that is most visible when the web page renders. There are a few other components that a copywriter should consider. In addition to the body content copywriters should also consider assisting in the writing of the page title, page description, and alt tags. These elements are important outward facing content elements that a search engine takes into consideration when determining your page rank. These elements are not as high profile as the main body content on the page, but the play an important role in how a prospect and a search engine interact with your web page. Note: attach work sheet…

Make an attainable goal

Depending on your industry, achieving top placement with your desired keywords or phrases may be very competitive. If competition is steep in your industry for your chosen keyword you may have to choose a less competitive keyword or adjust your time frame and the effort involved to reach your goals. The best plan for success is to choose keywords that will make achieving your goals possible. You must choose a realistic keyword or keyword phrase to optimize around.

Albino Blue Jay Large Format -

30×30 Natural History Photograph

Huge 30″x30″ color photograph. One of my favorite pieces, this albino blue jay is possibly the coolest thing ever. I love the texture of his feathers. The museum has several albino specimens, though the curator wasn’t sure if the original museum founders actively sought them out, or if they were just coincidentally donated.

**photograph featured on Photojojo, Apartment Therapy, & Creature Comforts**

This photograph was taken by yours truly, courtesy of the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, Roger Williams Park, Providence, RI.

This listing is for a 30×30 photograph printed on archival paper. Build your collection of large format wall art here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/dsbrennan?section_id=5595817

Deanna Halsall is a UK based Illustrator and Artist producing editorial, advertising, and interior work for a range of clients that include NBC America, Umbro, The Eden Project and The British Science Council.

Her work stems from a love of nature, birds, beards, pens, nice hair, nostalgia, super mario, screen prints, the colour yellow and collecting old stuff usually found in her parents’ attic.

Deanna is also a member of the illustration label Toy, a collective of artists that exhibit together, with their most recent show taking them to the UndPlus Gallery in Berlin, Germany.

TirolBerg invitation pack

Aim: To promote Austria’s TirolBerg attraction at the 2011 Alpine Skiing World Championships in Garmisch Partenkirchen (Germany). To assert Tirolean tourism within the industry’s global competition.

Strategy: Create a new invitation pack that would promote the TirolBerg as the ultimate VIP hospitality and networking destination for sports stars, media, corporate guests and Tirolean fans.

Tactic: To emulate the experience of luxury and exclusivity, a premium format was required. The pack would not only need to hold the TirolBerg invitation, but also efficiently communicate additional information about the event and guide recipients online to register for entry to the attraction.

Design: Burgopak’s sliding mechanism was incorporated into the invitation design, presenting to recipients the very best in design and presentation skills. The dynamic and versatile design provided the Tirol Tourist Board with six panels to use for brand communication – each section was used to illustrate useful information about the event.

End Result: The invitations were distributed to guests and partners of Tirol Werbung, including Tirol’s partner destinations St. Anton am Arlberg, Ischgl, Sölden, Kitzbühel and the Seefeld Arena.
